The Reporter Asked

Teresa Compton

Poetry

Most of the time I resent asinine questions asked by reporters with regard to a tragedy. I hate the question, “How do you feel?” It should be outlawed.  The mother of a slain son should turn away before placing her hand on the camera lens. This time though, the question and the answer moved me to record what Covid has done.

The reporter asked,

“How has Covid changed your life?’

She replied: “We used to live paycheck

to paycheck.  Now we live food box

to food box.”
